Are You & Your Child Ready?

Posted on by brandy

The Georgia Pre-K Program is a lottery funded, educational program for Georgia’s children. Children who are four years of age by September 1st, who are Georgia residents, are eligible to attend the Pre-K Program for the upcoming year.

The program provides a full 6.5-hour instructional day for children, five days a week. The program is focused on increasing school readiness and improving overall school performance.

The term “school readiness” means that children are prepared for success in kindergarten in the following areas:

  • social development
  • emotional development
  • physical development
  • cognitive development

In addition, the Pre-K program helps children become independent, self-confident and enthusiastic learners.

Participation in the program encourages children to develop good habits and daily routines. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the Pre-K classroom and to participate in the monthly meetings with your child’s teacher to discuss the developmental progress from month to month.

Pre-K Classrooms have learning areas (or “centers”) set-up in each room and supplied with books, materials and learning activities. Typical learning centers in a Pre-K classroom will include manipulative, blocks, reading/books, art, science, dramatic play, writing, and music.

The learning centers are designed to promote various developmental skills in seven domain areas:

  • Language and Literacy
  • Math Development
  • Science Development
  • Social Studies Development
  • Creative Development
  • Physical and Health Development
  • Social Emotional Development

Tasks such as learning simple life skills will be developed in this program along with a multitude of other learning opportunities. These seven domains directly correlate with the Georgia’s Pre-K Content Standards, which help guide the instruction in the classroom and are also correlated with the Kindergarten Georgia Performance Standards.

Registration for current Bridge students has begun and will continue through January 27th. Open enrollment to the public begins January 30th. To register, please come in to fill out enrollment forms, a copy of your child’s birth certificate, proof of residency for the state of Georgia and your child’s social security card.
